Course Content:

• Introduction to Health & Safety: Overview of health and safety principles, including the importance of a proactive approach to preventing accidents and injuries in the healthcare environment.
• Legal Framework and Responsibilities: Understanding relevant health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and the responsibilities of employers and employees in maintaining a safe workplace.
• Risk Assessment: Guidance on conducting risk assessments to identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and implement control measures to mitigate safety concerns.
• Hazard Identification and Management: Training on recognising common hazards in healthcare settings, such as manual handling risks, infection control, and hazardous substances, and managing these risks effectively.
• Emergency Procedures: Procedures for responding to emergencies, including fire safety protocols, evacuation procedures, and the management of medical emergencies.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Understanding the types of PPE available, when and how to use them correctly, and ensuring compliance with PPE requirements to protect against workplace hazards.
• Accident Reporting and Investigation: Procedures for reporting accidents and incidents, including the importance of accurate documentation and the process for investigating incidents to prevent future occurrences.
• Health and Well-being: Promoting health and well-being in the workplace, including strategies for managing stress, maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and supporting mental health.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the Health & Safety Awareness Training Course, participants will be able to:

• Understand Health & Safety Principles: Demonstrate a clear understanding of fundamental health and safety principles and their importance in preventing accidents and ensuring a safe working environment.

• Comply with Legal Requirements: Understand and adhere to relevant health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and recognise the roles and responsibilities of both employers and employees.

• Conduct Risk Assessments: Perform effective risk assessments to identify hazards, evaluate associated risks, and implement appropriate control measures to mitigate safety concerns.

• Manage Hazards Effectively: Identify common hazards in healthcare settings and apply strategies to manage and reduce these risks to ensure a safe workplace for staff, patients, and visitors.

• Implement Emergency Procedures: Follow established emergency procedures, including fire safety protocols and evacuation plans, and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.

• Use PPE Correctly: Understand the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with PPE requirements to protect against workplace hazards.

• Report and Investigate Accidents: Report accidents and incidents accurately, and participate in investigations to understand the causes and prevent future occurrences.

• Promote Health and Well-being: Apply strategies to promote health and well-being in the workplace, including managing stress, supporting mental health, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain high standards of health and safety in their healthcare environment.
