- Legal and Health & Safety Requirements: Understanding relevant legislation and health & safety guidelines, including the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, and the responsibilities of employers and employees.
- Risk Assessment: Techniques for conducting risk assessments related to manual handling tasks, identifying potential hazards, and implementing control measures to reduce risks.
- Safe Handling Techniques: Practical training on safe moving and handling techniques, including proper body posture, lifting techniques, and using equipment such as hoists and transfer aids.
- Use of Equipment: Guidance on the correct use of moving and handling equipment, including hoists, slings, slide sheets, and transfer boards, to ensure safe and effective use.
- Handling Individuals with Specific Needs: Strategies for handling individuals with different mobility needs, including those with physical disabilities, neurological conditions, or cognitive impairments.
- Preventing and Managing Injuries: Identifying signs of injury related to manual handling, understanding common musculoskeletal disorders, and implementing strategies to prevent and manage injuries.
